Thank you so much for having a conversation with me about your thinking around Performance Agreement and Teacher Inquiry for 2017. So to summarise, you would like to focus on Developing Learner Agency in maths for our Performance Agreement, Using Chapter Chat as a vehicle to increase learner agency and student achievement for your Teacher Inquiry Furthering your understanding in learner agency for your professional/personal goal.
I shared you into our work from the innovation fund and we looked at the Agency matrix we developed. Here, we talked about using this matrix as a tool to collect evidence of your impact. We talked about choosing a range of kids from “Above, At and Below” as your target group (maximum of 4). And tracking their progress throughout the year. As a result of our teacher inquiries we are wanting to find out what has the greatest impact of student achievement? Which group will experience accelerated progress? And how will you know? And if it is not effective, being prepared to ditch it.
We drew some parallels between “Street Talk” and “Chapter Chat”. These are two fantastic innovations that you have started and implemented here at Russell Street. They are exciting and there is lots of engagement from the kids.
So where to next? During the last couple of weeks at school lock in your target kids Find out what your target kids know: writing assessment, STAR test data, running record, What are their gaps? Collect agency base data Pull your data together on your Teacher Inquiry Google Doc Embed doc onto your blog
I look forward to catching up again soon to discuss more about learner agency. My understanding of it is always changing and evolving so it would be great to clarify my definition of it as well. Thanks for time and energy Stephen,
Kia ora Stephen!
